There of loads of shopping opportunities at all of the towns along the line, those worth a special mention are at the ends of the line. In Darlington you will discover shopping with a difference: with close to 600 shops from favourite high street names to modern shopping centres, great markets and independent shops, plus quaint yards and wynds, all conveniently situated just a short stroll from Bank Top station in this compact, clean, town with its pedestrian centre. At the other end of the line, Bishop Auckland has over 200 shops and over 50 cafes, restaurants take-aways and pubs. These are easily found by heading from the railway station towards the Town Hall. Venture to the south end of Newgate Street or into Fore Bondgate for specialist shops you just won’t find on most high streets.

Plus, if you travel by train you can make the most of your shopping trip – leave the car at home and you can enjoy a glass of wine and relax over a leisurely lunch without worrying about parking meters.
