A quick introduction to The Bishop Line.
The Bishop Line runs between Darlington and Bishop Auckland, and is part of the original Stockton & Darlington Railway, where on 27th September 1825, it became the birthplace of the modern railway. The line is bursting with history and exciting attractions like Hopetown Darlington, Locomotion at Shildon and The Auckland Project with its many cultural attractions, and it is the gateway to the Weardale Railway.
You can explore the route from the comfort of the train, or if you’re feeling more energetic you can take advantage of the new S&DR Trail of Discovery which allows you to explore much of the original route either on foot or by bike.
Bishop Line Community Rail partnership is a collaboration of like-minded organisations delivering work around the common overarching objective of encouraging greater use of rail services through increased engagement with local communities. We work together to deliver projects which aim to deliver economic, social, and environmental benefits to the region’s residents and visitors.
Get inspired and explore around our stations to see where you can get to using the Bishop Line.
