Bishop Line Marketing Campaign Shortlisted for National Award

The Bishop Community Rail Partnership is proud to have been shortlisted for the Association of Community Rail Partnerships (ACoRP) Community Rail Award for Best Marketing or Communications Campaign for its Hourly Service Campaign which ran during 2017-18.

The Bishop Line Hourly Service campaign was a multi-media marketing campaign to promote a major service improvement originated from market research insights. Fun characters were brought to life through graphics, animations and into promotional merchandise to give the Bishop Line a friendly approachable persona and make the service more attractive to families, commuters and tourists alike. Sustainable reusable Hourly Service coffee cups were handed out to the public at major tourist events along the Bishop Line throughout the summer and Christmas periods resulting in a 28% increase in passenger numbers year on year.

ACoRP’s Community Rail Awards recognise and reward the hard work and dedication of everybody involved in community rail. They also help ACoRP to understand what’s happening in community rail, its innovations and successes, so we can share good practice year-round.

Now in its 15th year, the Community Rail Awards celebrates the important and often unsung work carried out by community rail volunteers, partnerships, station friends, and community groups, in bringing local people together, running community engagement and rail accessibility initiatives, and helping communities get the most from their local railway lines and stations.

Robert Whitehouse, Chairman of Bishop Line Community Rail Partnership Commented “It’s a great achievement to be shortlisted for this national award. The hourly service campaign was extremely successful particularly because it was developed from a customer insight. Our customers asked for an hourly service and the Partnership worked with Northern to deliver their wishes. We wanted to celebrate this success and inform our customers that we had listened and improved the service for them and thus in December 2017 the ‘Hourly Service’ campaign launched. We look forward to attending the awards ceremony in Telford in October and celebrating all the successful entries.”
