You can now find Darlington’s railway museum the Head of Steam, at the historic site, celebrating the pioneering Quakers who made the dream of steam a reality and brought the world rail travel. It is a great place for family days out and easy to reach by the Bishop Line so you can leave the car at home and enjoy the train journey together.
The famous Skerne Bridge seen upon the recent £5 Bank of England note is near by, just a few minutes walk from the station. There are plenty of local shops and a retail park with a large supermarket and food outlet within walking distance.
Close to the Station are the Hopetown works where the “Tornado” an A1 Peppercorn Pacific steam engine was recently built.
